Tobacco Processing Moisture Control Solution

Moisture can influence tobacco flexibility, cutting performance, drying efficiency and production consistency.
The MS-580 Online NIR Moisture Analyzer provides continuous, non-contact surface-moisture information at selected tobacco-processing points.
Suitable Materials: Tobacco Leaves · Cut Tobacco · Tobacco Stems · Expanded Tobacco · Reconstituted Tobacco

Industry Challenges

The Problems This Solution Addresses

Low Moisture Low moisture conditions may increase tobacco brittleness, cutting loss, material breakage and processing variation.

High Moisture High moisture conditions may increase drying requirements, material-handling difficulty, storage-quality risks and production variation.

Changing Tobacco Materials Leaf grade, material colour, chemical composition, particle size, material presentation, flavoring and surface treatment can affect reflected NIR signals. Different tobacco materials or product grades may require separate calibration models.

Engineered Response

MOSYE Solution

Specific Solution

The MS-580 measures reflected near-infrared signals from the exposed tobacco surface without direct sensor contact.
An application-specific calibration model converts the reflected spectral response into continuous surface-moisture data.
Typical Measurement Points: Tobacco Conveyors · Conditioning-Line Outlets · Cut-Tobacco Transfer Points · Dryer Outlets · Selected Expansion or Flavoring-Process Outlets
Final feasibility and installation depend on tobacco type, grade, colour range, composition, surface treatment, material presentation, dust level, process temperature and measurement distance.

Solution Features

The solution provides: Continuous NIR Measurement Continuous reflected-NIR moisture information from the exposed tobacco surface. Non-Contact Surface Measurement Measurement without mechanical contact with moving tobacco materials. Multi-Spectrum LED Technology Multiple NIR wavelengths for application-specific tobacco moisture measurement. Tobacco-Specific Calibration Separate calibration models for selected tobacco types, grades and processing conditions. Optional Air-Purge Support Configuration-dependent support for dusty tobacco-processing environments. Process-System Integration Connection with selected PLC and quality-management systems. The MS-580 measures the exposed material surface within its optical field of view. It does not automatically provide the average moisture of the complete material layer. Changes in tobacco grade, formulation, flavoring or surface condition may require separate calibration and application validation.

Why MOSYE

Solution Advantages

Earlier Moisture Variation Detection:Online measurement provides moisture information between laboratory tests, helping operators identify changing tobacco conditions earlier;

Conditioning and Cutting Support:Moisture trends can support evaluation of steam addition, water addition, conditioning conditions and material preparation before cutting;

Drying Process Support:Measurement at selected dryer outlets can help operators evaluate final-moisture variation, drying temperature and production speed. Automatic adjustment requires application-specific engineering, validation and commissioning;

Reduced Routine Sampling:Continuous monitoring can reduce routine sampling workload while laboratory testing remains necessary for calibration, verification and quality assurance. Measurement data can also support process trends, deviation alarms and production records through connection with plant control or quality systems.
