The MS-540 uses an array-based multi-spectrum near-infrared system to measure reflected signals from the exposed tobacco-material surface without direct sensor contact.
Application-specific calibration models convert the spectral response into selected component values. Each component requires representative reference samples, a suitable laboratory method and an independently validated calibration model.

Laboratory testing remains necessary for calibration, verification and quality assurance.
